CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

JOKER

Waking up with Lana in my arms was both surreal and a dream come fucking true. The only way the start of the day would have been better was if I had buried myself deep inside her until she cried out my name. But I was…waiting. Patiently. Okay, semi-patiently. My raging hardon wasn’t going to take care of itself. Thank fuck for cold showers.

It put me in a good mood, though, the first one in weeks. It wasn’t like that was going to last once I walked into the clubhouse and had to deal with the fact that our plan had fallen through last night, but at least I was starting off on the right side of shit. Maybe there was a little more pep in my step than usual. I was feeling good.

My woman was going to give us a shot. I was going to give her some time, and she was going to try, but I’d gotten my feelings out there and she didn’t go running from the bed. It may have seemed small to others, but for us, it was fucking huge. And I was feeling like a goddamn emotional teenager with how giddy I was over it, but I was giving myself this one.

After coffee and some delicious breakfast made by Mary, I kissed Lana goodbye and headed out to my bike. Crow and Silver were already out for the day, and Austin had been replaced by DT out on the curb. We shot the shit for a minute or two, and then I was back on my bike, heading the familiar route back to headquarters.

When I pulled up to the main gate, an unmarked car parked a half a mile down the road caught my attention. Narrowing my eyes in the sun, I checked it out. It was a fucking undercover car. “Fucking fucks!”

Revving my engine, I pulled through the now open gate and sped up to one of the front parking spots. Once my girl was off, I swung my leg over and yanked off my helmet.

There went my good fucking mood.

“Ward!” I stormed through the doors and walked immediately toward the back to the offices.

“What’s going on, brother?” Eagle asked from where he, Dozer, and Jack-Jack were perched at the bar.

“I think we’ve got company,” I growled, my anger rising by the second. “The rotten pig kind.”

“What’re you yelling at?” Ward staggered down the hall, looking like he hadn’t slept all night.

I didn’t know if it was because of club stuff or the fact that he’d insisted that his old lady came home with him last night, but I wasn’t about to ask.

“Unmarked car parked down the road. Spotted two bodies. I bet I can wager a guess which shithead is here to pay us another visit.”

Ward cursed, dragging his hand down his face. “Your fucking sperm donor is really getting on my fuckin’ nerves.”

“Yeah, well, welcome to the club.”

Ward’s phone lit up. Looking down at the screen, he laughed and held it up.
